How to make a before and after picture
Tips for convincing before and after photos
- Same spot, same angle: stand in the same place and frame the shot the same way for both photos.
- Same light: take both at a similar time of day, or with the same lamps on, so the change you're showing is the real difference.
- Same zoom: crop both photos to the same shape first with our crop tool if needed.
- Be honest: heavy filters on only one side make results look fake and reduce trust.
Which layout should I use?
Side by side is the classic comparison and suits tall photos. Stacked places the before photo above the after photo, which suits wide shots like rooms, gardens and cars, and fills a phone screen nicely. Split combines both photos into one at the slider's position — great for showing an edit on the same picture, such as retouching or colour grading.
