A large, high-resolution image gives the sharpest tiles.

Tile shape

Instagram profiles now show posts as 3:4 rectangles. Choose Square if you prefer the classic look.

The numbers show the order to post each tile. They won't appear in your downloads.

How to post: upload tile 1 first and keep going in number order. Instagram puts your newest post at the top-left, so posting in this order makes the picture come together. Post them one after another so nothing else lands in between.

Your grid tiles are ready

Post them starting with tile 1 and finishing with the last number — your profile will show the full picture.

How to make an Instagram grid post

1
Add your imageChoose a large, high-quality picture. Wide images suit a single row of 3; tall or square images suit 6, 9 or 12 tiles.
2
Pick the grid and frame itChoose how many posts and the tile shape, then use the slider to move the image until the important part sits nicely in the grid.
3
Download and post in orderYou get a ZIP with files named post-01, post-02 and so on. Upload them in that order, one after the other.

Why the posting order matters

Your Instagram profile shows the newest post in the top-left corner. So the tile that should end up in the bottom-right has to be posted first, and the top-left tile last. That's easy to get wrong, which is why every tile is numbered in the order to upload it.

Portrait or square tiles?

In 2025 Instagram changed profile grids from squares to taller 3:4 rectangles. If you upload square tiles, the profile view trims a little from their sides, which can break the seamless effect. Portrait 3:4 tiles (1080 × 1440 px) match the current profile grid. Choose Square if you specifically want the classic look or are making tiles for another platform.

Tips for a great grid

  • Keep faces and text away from the lines between tiles — each line becomes a small gap on the profile.
  • Each tile also appears alone in followers' feeds, so make sure every piece looks interesting by itself.
  • Use the same caption theme or a short series hashtag so people understand it's part of a bigger picture.
  • If posting all tiles at once feels like a lot, post a row of 3 — it still forms a complete panorama.

Frequently asked questions

What size are the tiles?

Portrait tiles are 1080 × 1440 pixels and square tiles are 1080 × 1080 pixels — Instagram's recommended widths for sharp images.

Can I post the grid as a carousel instead?

Yes, but a carousel shows one tile per swipe, so the full picture only appears on your profile. For carousels, a single row of 3 tiles works well as a swipeable panorama.

Will the image look blurry?

Only if the original is small. A 3 × 3 portrait grid needs an image at least 3240 × 4320 pixels for full sharpness; smaller images still work but are enlarged.

Is my image uploaded?

No. The tiles are created in your browser and the image never leaves your device.
