When is converting a PDF to images useful?

  • Social media: Instagram, Facebook and LinkedIn posts need images, not PDFs. Convert a flyer, menu or slide deck page by page.
  • Presentations and documents: drop a chart or page from a report straight into PowerPoint, Google Slides or Word as a picture.
  • Sharing one page: send just the page that matters instead of a 40-page document.
  • Online forms: some upload forms accept only JPG or PNG. Convert your scanned document to fit.

JPG or PNG?

For pages that are mostly photos, JPG keeps files small. For pages with lots of small text, line drawings or diagrams, PNG keeps edges perfectly crisp, at the cost of a larger file. If you're unsure, start with JPG at High quality — it's what most people need.

About resolution

PDF pages don't have a fixed pixel size, so the tool "draws" each page at the quality you choose. Screen (72 DPI) is fine for quick previews. High (144 DPI) produces a 1190 × 1684 pixel image for an A4 page — sharp on any phone or laptop. Print (216 DPI) is for zooming in on fine print or printing.

Frequently asked questions

Is my PDF uploaded to a server?

No. The PDF is opened and rendered by your browser using the open-source PDF.js library. It never leaves your device, so it's safe for confidential documents.

Can I convert a password-protected PDF?

Yes, if you know the password. The tool will ask for it when you open the file. The password is only used on your device.

How many pages can I convert?

There's no set limit. Very long documents at Print quality use a lot of memory, so on a phone you may want to convert large PDFs in parts by selecting a range of pages.

Why do some fonts look different?

If a PDF doesn't embed its fonts, the browser substitutes a similar one. This is rare with PDFs exported from modern apps.

Can I turn images back into a PDF?

Yes — use our Image to PDF tool to combine images into a single document.
