How to make a QR code
Do these QR codes expire?
No. Many "free" QR generators create dynamic codes that point to their own server first, then stop working when a free trial ends. The codes made here are static: your link or information is stored directly in the pattern, so they work forever, with no account, no redirect and no tracking. The trade-off is that you can't change where a static code points after printing — make a new one instead.
Wi-Fi QR codes
A Wi-Fi code lets guests join your network by pointing their camera at it — no spelling out passwords. Print it and stick it on the fridge, in a guest room or on a café table. Most iPhones and Android phones support this from the built-in camera app.
Printing tips
- Size: at least 2 × 2 cm (0.8 in) for close scanning; scale up by about 10× the scanning distance for posters.
- Contrast: dark code on a light background. Inverted (light-on-dark) codes don't work with some scanners.
- Quiet zone: keep the white border around the code; don't let text or graphics touch it.
- Logos: the code uses high error correction when you add a logo, so up to about 20% can be covered — but always test.
Frequently asked questions
Is this QR code generator really free?
Yes. No signup, no limits, no watermark, and the codes never expire. You can use them commercially.
Can I track how many people scan my code?
Not with a static code — and that's deliberate, since it means no third party sits between your visitors and your link. To measure scans, add tracking parameters to your website link (for example ?utm_source=qr) and check your website analytics.
PNG or SVG?
PNG works everywhere — documents, social media, most printing. SVG is a vector file that stays perfectly sharp at any size, which designers and print shops prefer for large posters.
Why won't my QR code scan?
The usual causes are low contrast (light colours or a dark background), a logo that's too large, the code printed too small, or the white border being cut off. Go back to dark-on-white with no logo and test again.
Is my Wi-Fi password sent anywhere?
No. The code is created in your browser and nothing you type leaves your device.
